Teruko Kushi is an interdisciplinary artist based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her work is founded in the materiality of painting, examining paintings relationship to psychological, spatial and conceptual experience. Manifesting in a physical way, she creates work where movement, light and interactive gestures are crucial to the viewing experience. Through a colorful and performative approach to painting, she imbues her work with questions of intimate experience, memory, cultural identity and the embodiment of space. Having previously worked as a studio assistant for artist Juan Jose Barboza-Gubo and painter Marilyn Kalish, she has received an intensive training in painting, metal and glass sculpture, as well as casting and installation.

She attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University, with a degree focused in painting, installation and literature. She has exhibited work in numerous shows including TwentybyTen at the Kingston Gallery in Boston, 30under30 at Gallery No.Six Depot, SMFA Award Recipient’s Show at the Grossman Gallery, and Urashima Taro at the W. Van Alan Clark Library in Boston. Kushi is the 2014 Boit Award Honorable Mention Recipient, and Recipient of the Linde Family Scholarship.
