As an artist, I am most inspired when I travel. Removed from the daily grind, I thrive as an anonymous observer and collector of interactions.
Travel is an essential medium on my palette. The places & experiences I seek enrich all aspects of my artistic practice, expand my anthropological research and my ongoing collection of references. I quench my curiosity at the banks of established cultural temples, art fairs, alternative spaces & obscure niches of culture. I find inspiration by observing who attends, how technology influences the experience and how the act of viewing contorts the body.

Postures of Consumption
a facetious yet discerning series of drawings cataloguing the unanimity and diversity of viewers consuming culture. Captured in the moment of consumption while performing the act of viewing, the series questions how has technology and social media changed the way we absorb culture? Who is the presentation of culture for?
I have observed and documented people interacting and existing my entire life. but ‘Postures of Consumption’ officially started at the National Gallery in Oslo, Norway. I became fascinated by the swarms of tourists, traveling vast distances and waiting in long lines to take fast selfies in front of the iconic “Scream” painting by Edvard Munch. I spent the afternoon observing the reoccurring performance.
One by one, viewers briskly circumnavigated the exhibit, head down, seeing only through the lens of their smartphones, entirely missing the oeuvre and nuance. The situation was quite ironic and I started making slow pictures of people snapping pictures of pictures.
